Dutch Fugitive Wanted for Drug Trafficking Arrested in Medellín

A 50-year-old Dutch citizen wanted internationally for drug trafficking was arrested at Medellín’s Terminal del Norte on July 21.

Migration officers located the man after an alert appeared in Migración Colombia’s information systems. He was travelling on an Expreso Brasilia bus that had arrived from Barranquilla.

After confirming his identity, authorities established that he was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice requested by the Netherlands. Officials also said he had been staying in Colombia without regular immigration status.

The Dutch national was transferred to the relevant Colombian authorities while the international legal process moves forward.

His arrest was one of two operations against suspected foreign drug traffickers in Medellín within 24 hours. In a separate case, authorities detained Panamanian citizen Ismael Abdiel González Pomares in Laureles. He is accused of leading a network that allegedly used commercial containers at Panama’s Port of Balboa to transport cocaine.

Authorities have not disclosed the Dutch suspect’s name.
