Three men were arrested in downtown Medellín after allegedly extorting a Dutch tourist. Authorities say the tourist was initially robbed after meeting two women at a hotel in the La Veracruz area, losing his phone and bank cards.
Days later, he received messages demanding 2 million pesos for the return of his belongings. A controlled money drop was arranged near Plaza Botero, where one suspect was caught receiving the package. Two others, found with the stolen items, were also arrested.
The operation was carried out by the Medellín Mayor’s Office, National Police GAULA unit, and the Attorney General’s Office.
