Authorities in Medellín have captured and expelled a U.S. fugitive wanted for a multi-million-dollar robbery in Las Vegas, marking another blow against international crime in the city.
The man, whose identity has not yet been released, was located in a hotel in the upscale neighborhood of El Poblado. His arrest was the result of a joint operation involving Migración Colombia, the Attorney General’s Technical Investigation Corps (CTI), the National Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
According to Medellín Mayor Federico “Fico” Gutiérrez, the fugitive was not only sought for the Las Vegas heist but also faced pending charges in Miami.
“They fall because they fall. Medellín is not a refuge for criminals. There is no hiding place here for those who think they can escape justice,” Gutiérrez said on his official X account.
Investigations revealed that the fugitive had attempted to blend into the city, even investing part of the stolen money in local businesses. However, intelligence work and international cooperation ultimately led to his capture, expulsion, and transfer to U.S. authorities. He was later detained in Miami.
The Medellín Security Secretariat reported that so far this year, 18 individuals with Interpol red notices have been apprehended in the city.
Mayor Gutiérrez reiterated that Medellín will not serve as a safe haven for global criminal networks and vowed to continue strengthening operations against international fugitives who seek to hide in Colombia.
