Authorities in Medellín have arrested Raymond Truong, a Canadian national, for his alleged role in the kidnapping and torture of a 42-year-old Colombian woman in November 2023. The arrest, carried out by the Gaula Militar del Valle de Aburrá, follows a court order and is the second in the case, after Raymond Arthur Jr. Cornish—also Canadian—was captured in January.

According to Colombia’s Attorney General’s Office, Truong and Cornish were staying at an Airbnb apartment in El Poblado when they allegedly accused the woman, who provided cleaning services at the property, of theft. The suspects reportedly forced her into a room, beat her, and suffocated her with a pillowcase while demanding information about a missing ring and cash. The woman also reported being robbed of her cellphone during the ordeal.

The case only came to light in mid-2024 after media pressure exposed months of inaction by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Medellín Women’s Secretariat, despite available video evidence and the woman’s visible injuries.

Both men face charges of aggravated kidnapping, torture, and aggravated robbery. Authorities have not yet confirmed a trial date.
