David Flint Stone, a 60-year-old American citizen, was arrested in Medellín, Colombia, on April 24 on suspicion of sexually exploiting a minor. Stone, who previously built a real estate portfolio in Hawaii, entered the country as a tourist.

Authorities reported that Stone had sold several properties in Hawaii between 2019 and 2022, with transactions totaling approximately $600,000. Before traveling to Colombia, he resided in a large, secluded home in Pahoa on the Big Island.

In Medellín, Stone had rented an apartment in the San Joaquín neighborhood, where he was found in the company of a 15-year-old girl. According to police, the minor presented a falsified identification card at the building’s entrance. Residents, suspicious of her age, alerted authorities, leading to Stone’s arrest shortly after.

During the investigation, the girl told officials that Stone had given her one million Colombian pesos (about $260) the day before the encounter. Police seized the cash and a mobile phone allegedly used to arrange the meeting as part of the evidence.

Stone was formally charged with the sexual exploitation of a minor under Colombian law. A judge ordered him held in preventive detention while the case proceeds. The incident has drawn attention to gaps in migration and security controls for foreign visitors.
